Artist Chelsea Polk’s multidisciplinary practice, which includes photography, printmaking, video, and sound, discusses how place and environment are experienced in a culture heavily based on technology. Polk evokes a sense of placelessness through an improvisational and rhizomatic process of collecting and recontextualizing information from specific locations. Using synesthesia, the work translates texture and color observed in a place to rhythm and sound. She references the history of multimedia work through her practice, including experimental composition and music notation of the ‘50s, as well as late Abstract expressionism in the manipulation of the photograph.

Polk has exhibited work in and around Cleveland, including the Morgan Conservatory, Cleveland Print Room, Waterloo Arts Gallery, and SPACES, amongst others. She received her BFA in Photography + Video from Cleveland Institute of Art in May of 2017. In the fall of 2017, she will pursue her MFA in Photography at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
